Chalming Culture Club 038
Featuring a Friday Night Mixer at a cute bookstore, wine tastings in Barnsdall Art Park, and a new place to shop curated vintage IRL.
Welcome back to the 38th edition of Chalming Culture Club.
Los Angeles Design Weekend is taking over the city right now with neighborhood-centric events happening everywhere from Lincoln Heights and Frogtown to Echo Park and the Arts District. There’s also the L.A. Zine Fest taking place, and a bookstore mixer in Echo Park. Shopping wise, a new selection of shoppable vintage is being debuted Sunday at Kinn Concept Store in collaboration with Nou.
Plus! A new Yorgos Lanthimos film is here — and just like Poor Things, it (thankfully) stars Emma Stone; a new memoir about ambition and work was filling up our group chats this week (all of the relatable feels); and over on the internet, there’s (somehow) even more Brat where that came from, and this time Lorde’s involved.
Without further adieu, we’re excited to bring you the #38th sitting of the Chalming Culture Club.
What we’re doing…
On Sunday, Kinn Concept Store is debuting a curated selection of shoppable vintage in-store in collaboration with Alexia Ioannou of Nou (see a small preview above).
Erewhon is now offering complimentary farm tours for members. The first one is fully booked, but there are more to come).
It’s Los Angeles Design Weekend with neighborhood-centric events taking place all over the city, from Chinatown to Lincoln Heights to Verdugo Village, Frogtown, Mount Washington, Cypress Park and Silver Lake. A lot of our favorite eateries are involved, like Canyon Coffee and Goodboy. This sounds fun (and delicious).
Every Friday night, there are wine tastings in Barnsdall Art Park. BYO friends and picnic blanket. Your ticket covers four glasses.
L.A. Zine Fest is taking place in the Arts District on Sunday from 11am-6pm.
A Good Used Book — the very cute (see below) new bookstore in the East — is hosting its first Friday Night Mixer from 6-10pm. Some of L.A.’s best publishers and shops will be there and Butchr Bar — Echo Park’s new eatery — is providing the wines and food.
What we’re reading…
Ambition Monster by Jennifer Romolini, the entertaining and highly relatable memoir about workaholism, the addictive nature of ambition, and the humbling process of picking yourself up when the world lets you down.
What we’re watching…
Yorgos Lanthimos‘ new film Kinds of Kindness was released last night, with a brilliant cast made up of Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley.
What we’re listening to…
Like all the other chronically online millennials and Gen Zers, we hit play on Charli XCX and Lorde’s remix to ‘Girl, so confusing’ the minute it was released late last night.
What we’re eating…
Ceviches, tostadas, and zarandeados at Loreto in a Frogtown.
What we’re drinking…
Glasses of vin at La Sabina wine bar in Culver City which is now open late for summer (until 10pm). They'll also have chef collabs, pop ups and live music events happening, too.
What we’re shopping…
Black Market Flea is back on Saturday with 150+ curated Black-owned businesses selling everything from vintage clothing and furniture to custommade pieces. There’ll also be DJs, food and drink.
What we’re thinking about…
Annie Hamilton’s piece for GQ about befriending her idol Tavi Gevinson — and the obsessions with other women we very rarely talk about publicly.
Where we’re going…
Taking a trip to Ojai for the Wellness Summer Camp Experience on Sunday. Think contrast therapy, happiness workshops, yoga, breath work and tea ceremonies.
